March 21 -- Mall Overnite!

WOW!!! What a night!! And I think I speak for everyone when I say, What a lot of FUN!!!! We had 13 girls from our troop signed up for the Mall Overnite event! Everyone met in the mall just before 10PM and managed to find a "campsite" for our troop -- we took a spot in front of Barnes & Noble... with over 500 girls attending, it wasn't easy to find a spot big enough for sixteen of us!!

Our evening began with a guest speaker, Jackie from KPTH Fox 44 news station! She was followed by a performance from the Morningside College Dance Squad (of which I didn't get any pictures... some girls needed a bathroom break at this time!!! Sorry!) and then a baton-twirling performance!! We also had a DJ for the whole evening/morning, so there was a lot of dancing, too! All this entertainment had worked up an appetite, so we took a break for pizza! Next, we went to the movie theatre to see a movie! The attraction was "Return to Witch Mountain" which was a good movie, if you don't mind all the special effects and loud noises!! Once the movie was over, we went back to our "campsite" and played games, then returned to the mall's Center Court for karaoke and drawings for door prizes. There was also a room with TVs set up so that girls could play Wii games!! The whole night was very busy and very entertaining -- everyone had a blast! We couldn't believe it when it was time to clean up and get ready for parents to come pick the girls up! Can't wait to do it again next year!! Check out the photos from the event posted below:

Just A Reminder...

Just a quick reminder to remind everyone that there is NO meeting this Thursday, March 19th. Washington Elementary is having a "Wonders of Art and Science" Fair on this evening!! If you have a free evening, check out all the projects being displayed and enjoy refreshments in the gymnasium!!

Secondly, anyone that signed up for the mall overnight this weekend, March 21, will need to meet at the mall between 9:30 - 9:45pm, so that we can get the troop registered together and into the event by 10pm. Please come to the mall entrance between Chuck E. Cheese and Barnes & Noble! Thanks so much!! Refer to the previous posts below or to your information sheet for any other information. If you have any other questions, please call Gay -- 276-1190. We look forward to seeing the girls there!!

March 5 -- Sewing... With Needle and Thread!!

Tonight we got to learn a sewing technique by using poster board and yarn! Our leader had holes punched in the poster board and we took the yarn and "sewed" around the edges! Once we got the hand of using this technique, we moved on to learning to sew with a real needle and thread!

The project we have started on is to sew a miniature "bean bag". We are taking two squares of fabric and sewing around three sides and part of the fourth side. Once we have done this, we will then turn our square "right side out" and pour some beans inside! After this step, we move on to the final step of sewing our bags completely shut!! We were not able to finish this project during this meeting, so we will continue to work on them at the next meeting.

Sorry for not posting pictures of this! This was a very "hands on" project, even for the leader and the helpers! But we will be sure to post pictures from the upcoming meetings of the girls working on them and the finished product!!

One last reminder... there will be NO MEETING on Thursday, March 19th due to the Washington Elementary Art and Science Fair!! (Reminders will be sent by email and text as the date draws closer.) Please support our fellow classmates by attending! This event will showcase the many talents of our own Washington school students!! This event will be held at the school from 6:30pm - 8:00pm, with refreshments being served after viewing the student projects! Enjoy!!

February 19 -- Manners

Tonight we wrapped up our work on our badge about Manners by working on different styles of "Thank Yous" for our cookie customers! We had several different styles to choose from and even got copies to take home so we could make more!!
