December 11 -- "Christmas" Meeting

Since tonight is our only meeting for the month of December, we decided to make Christmas gifts for a loved one... parent, grandparent, aunt, cousin, etc. Now we can't tell you what was actually made since it might be your gift we are talking about, but the girls had loads of fun doing these!!! They also created the "gift bags" that the presents are wrapped in!! Hope everyone enjoys their present and we wish everyone a Happy Holiday!!!

Our next meeting will be January 8th. We will make our recipe books during this meeting. If you have not brought a recipe to contribute yet, please bring it to this meeting! We will be sure to include it!! Can't have too many good recipes, right??!

Stay tuned for more updates soon!!

December 5 - Cookies Crafts & Carols!!

Tonight was our "neighborhood" Council event, which was centered around the Christmas theme! By "neighborhood", we mean that we held this event with other Daisies, Brownies, and Girl Scouts from the neighboring schools -- Washington, Longfellow, and Joy Elementary schools!

Cookies Crafts & Carols 2008 was held at Wesley United Methodist Church in Indian Hills from 7PM - 9PM. Each troop was designated to their own table/station where we got to make crafts such as snowglobes, christmas tree ornaments, decorated note pads, and even a christmas tree puzzle that we were able to color and decorate! And let's not forget the yummy christmas cookies we were able to frost and decorate and then gobble down for a snack!! YUM!! YUM!!
After cleaning up our tables, we all sat in the center of the gym and sang christmas carols!! Our leaders told us to sing really loud!! While we were singing "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" we got a surprise guest... you guessed it... SANTA CLAUS!!!! We kept singing christmas carols and each troop got to take a turn getting their picture taken with Santa Claus and receiving a bag of treats from him! What an awesome night!! Check out the pics!!!

Also, just a quick reminder... because Christmas falls on a Thursday that would normally be our "meeting night", we are only having one meeting for the month of December. Our meeting will be on December 11th, but please note the time change! This meeting will be held from 6PM - 7PM. Mark your calendars! We will see you then! Thanks!!!

November 13 -- Recipes and Families

Tonight the girls brought in their favorite recipes! We will be making a cookbook for each girl to take home with them during one of our upcoming meetings. There should be some yummy ideas!!

We also talked about "family". What is a "family"? How many different kinds of "family" are there?? The girls drew pictures of their families, then we all took turns talking about who our families consisted of... we learned that there are small families and big families, families with step-parents or step-siblings, families with pets... the list goes on and on! Our project during this meeting was to make "coupons" for our family members. We were to come up with something that our family members would really appreciate, such as a coupon that is good for doing dishes for a whole week, or cleaning my room without being told... Check with your girl scout and see if she has a coupon for you!!

Our next meeting is December 11th. With December being so much fun and so BUSY, we will only be having this one meeting! Hope to see you there!!

October 30 -- Halloween Party!!!

We had 15 girls in attendance for our troop meeting/Halloween Party! What a blast! It was so great to see the girls dressed up in their costumes! We had two pirates, two cheerleaders, a bank robber, witches, fairies, Gabriella (High School Musical, of course!) and even an Indian Girl, a "groovy chic", and a piece of candy corn!!

To start off the meeting, the girls always stand in a circle and recite the Girl Scout Promise and then do the special friendship hand squeeze... since we were celebrating Halloween, we stood in our circle and tossed white yarn back and forth to each other while learning something new about everyone! When we were finished, all the yarn criss-crossed through the circle resembled a spider web! How cool is that??!!

What is a party without a snack?! We got to make healthy snacking "Spiders" of our very own and eat them! We took two crackers spread with lots of peanut butter to make a sandwich, then used pretzel sticks for legs and raisins for eyes. You can't get spiders any yummier than that!!

To round out the party, we played Halloween Bingo! Instead of yelling "Bingo!", we had to yell "BOO!"... we used candy corn as game pieces for this! We seem to keep coming up short of game pieces and having to hand out more... come to find out, the girls were eating their game pieces!! Can you blame them?!!! We played this game until everyone had a chance to win a prize! By this time, parents were showing up and our meeting was coming to an end...

We are looking forward to the next meeting on November 13th... we will be making a recipe book, so be sure to bring a recipe to share!! Can't wait to see all the yummy recipes the girls can come up with!!! Hope all the girls have FUN on trick or treat night!! See you next time!!

October 16 -- YOGA!!

We had a very fun meeting tonight!! Two yoga instructors showed up to our meeting and taught us lots of different stances and positions that make up yoga. We also learned that yoga actually helps our bodies build strength and can also be used to relax, such as just before going to bed! It would have been great if we had a camera -- we could have taken lots of pictures of all the girls in all their different positions!!! I think I speak for every one when I say that that was SO MUCH FUN!!!

October 10 -- Nut Sales Begins!!

For those of you who attended the first meeting and received a Nut Sales Packet, the sales begin on October 10th. The goal for each Girl Scout is to sell at least 5 items. This will qualify her to earn the Nut Sales Patch, which she can proudly display on her vest! To earn the Super Seller Patch, a Girl Scout must sell 35+ items. She will also get a bead necklace for her efforts! The prizes are cumulative, which means that the more a Girl Scout sells, the more she will earn!! All eligible prizes are shown on the back of the Nut Sales Order Form. There is also a Magnet Booklet enclosed with the Nut Sales Packet. This booklet will earn $3 for your daughter's troop if completely filled out with 10 different addresses and signed! New this year is an online activity about recycling which will earn your Girl Scout another patch for her vest... check your Nut Sales Packet for more information!!! Nut Sales officially ends on October 26th. Good Luck with your sales, Girl Scouts!!!

October 2 -- First Meeting!

Girl Scouts has finally started up again! We have 17 girls registered for our Troop this year and are planning for an amazing time!

Our first meeting was on October 2nd and our theme was "Healthy Habits". We learned all about germs and how we get them and how we pass them on to something or someone else... YUCK!!! The best part was when we got to put "Glitterbug Potion" on our hands and look at them under the black light!!! The "Glitterbug Potion" was actually a special lotion that helps us see dirt and germs when viewed under the black light. This was really cool and gross at the same time! After we viewed our hands under the light with the lotion and saw all the yucky germs, we got to wash our hands and come back and put more lotion on and look at our hands again to see if we washed away any of the germs. Now we know how important washing our hands is!!!
